HMRC extends higher-rate tax avoidance crackdown

Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is set to launch another campaign aimed at catching higher-rate tax avoiders.

In particular, the department will focus on high rate taxpayers working in the home improvement market and people who receive income from buying and selling goods or commission from those sales.

The campaign will focus on individuals or businesses which have failed to complete tax returns.

The Government is due to withdraw its 1% Stamp Duty exemption for first time buyers purchasing a property up to £250,000.

First time buyers clients could save up to £2,500 if their house purchase completes prior to the withdrawal date of 25 March 2012.
